6.23.26 Bargaining Update

Bargaining Has Begun!

Your Columbia Teachers Association bargaining team has officially started negotiations with Columbia County School District and is already making progress on issues that matter to educators.

➡️Wins So Far:

Discipline Matrix Distribution

CTA proposed requiring the District to provide all teachers with the Discipline Matrix during pre-planning. CCSD accepted this proposal.

➡️Proposals Under Discussion:

Teacher Bill of Rights

CTA proposed incorporating the Teacher Bill of Rights into our contract. CCSD submitted a counterproposal that references the statute but does not include the specific protections contained within it. CTA will continue advocating for stronger language.

Assignment Notifications

CTA proposed requiring teachers to be informed of their anticipated assignments for the following school year at least two weeks before the last student day. CCSD rejected the proposal but stated they will continue following current contract language, which

requires notification by the first day of post-planning.

Formal Observations

CTA proposed requiring two weeks' notice before formal observations. CCSD rejected the proposal, citing scheduling concerns. Both parties agreed that consistency across schools remains an important goal.

➡️SB 1296 and Union Strength:

CCSD proposed contract language related to SB 1296. CTA submitted a counterproposal that we believe aligns with the law while

protecting our members and our union.

SB 1296 has made union membership more important than ever. The strength of CTA at the bargaining table depends on maintaining strong membership. Every member helps protect our ability to negotiate salaries, benefits, and working conditions. When teachers stand together, our voice is stronger.

💲Compensation Discussions Have Started:

CTA has not yet submitted official compensation language, but discussions are underway. This year's TSIA funding comes with strict restrictions and can only be used for classroom teachers with at least 10 years of experience in Florida public schools. CTA remains committed to advocating for all teachers, regardless of position or years of experience.

United We Bargain. Together We Succeed.

Our next Negotiation Meeting is June 23rd at 9:00 a.m. at the District Office! Please join us to support YOUR contract!
